Latin Soul, Boogaloo and Latinised R&B developed in the 1960s in New York and grew out of Latinos expanding the reach of their music beyond the local Latin community and into the wider mainstream American society. Latin soul was a fusion of popular African American R&B and Soul, with Mambo and Cuban Son Montuno, placing a heavy emphasis on its Afro-Cuban rhythms and with songs sung in English. The Latin Soul movement had a great influence on the growing Salsa scene which dominated the New York Latin music scene in the 1970s.
