DESCRIPTION:27 November 2022 : NUYORICA ROOTS : GONZALO PORTA : SALSA DANCE PARTY : CIVIC UNDERGROUND \nEarly Birds Online Tickets $20 :: At The Door $25 \nThe Nuyorican movement is a cultural and intellectual movement involving poets\, writers\, musicians and artists who are Puerto Rican or of Puerto Rican descent\, who live in or near New York City\, and either call themselves or are known as Nuyoricans. \nIt originated in the late 1960s and early 1970s in neighbourhoods such as Loisaida\, East Harlem\, Williamsburg\, and the South Bronx as a means to validate Puerto Rican experience in the United States\, particularly for poor and working-class people who suffered from marginalization\, ostracism\, and discrimination. \nThe term Nuyorican was originally used as an insult until leading artists such as Miguel Algarín reclaimed it and transformed its meaning. \nThis will be a night of rootsy latin dance music\, featuring Gonzalo Porta and his band. \nHear them live through the MIllion $$$ Sound System at Civic Underground at the hip end of Sydney CBD. \n

His remarkable ability established his music \n\n\n\n\ncareer from the age of 13 and lead to massive success in Uruguay and \n\n\n\n\nthroughout South America such as Bolivia\, Argentina\, Brasil and Chile. \n\n\n\n\nHis success lead to have number 1 hits with groups like Monterrojo\, La \n\n\n\n\n424\, Karibitos con K\, Zanatta y L ́Autentica to achieve screaming fans \n\n\n\n\nchasing you down the street type of fame. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGonzalo began singing and recording professionally at such as young \n\n\n\n\nage\, that he was affectionately known as Gonzalito (little Gonzalo) in the \n\n\n\n\nUruguayan music scene\, a name that has stuck to this day. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDue to his reputation\, Gonzalo was also part of the Film “Aparte”\, a \n\n\n\n\nremarkable film aiming at the Uruguayan population.
